Chile’s Property Tax Reassessment Postponed: What’s Changing and How It Affects Taxes

Mar 11, 2026

The general reassessment of non-agricultural real estate, which was set to take effect in 2026, has been postponed to January 1, 2027.

On February 5, 2026, Law No. 21,806 on public sector adjustments was published. Beyond its labor-related provisions, the law included a practical change for taxpayers and companies with real estate, deferring the effective date of the next general reassessments for Property Tax (contributions).

As a general rule, this process takes place every four years, and the Internal Revenue Service (SII) applies the corresponding adjustments, redefining the bases and parameters used in calculating property taxes.

Due to strong criticism of the calculation methods implemented by the SII, lawmakers opted to maintain the current system for an additional period.

Thus, the general revaluation of non-agricultural real estate, which was set to take effect in 2026, is postponed to January 1, 2027; and the general agricultural revaluation, scheduled for 2028, is postponed to January 1, 2029.

This change does not mean “freezing” taxes in absolute terms, but it does postpone the structural adjustment that a general revaluation normally entails (redefinition of tax bases and parameters).

At the same time, the law extends the validity of current appraisals: for non-agricultural properties until December 31, 2026, and for agricultural properties until December 31, 2028.

From an administrative perspective, the SII has already repealed Exempt Resolution No. 209 of December 31, 2025, which had been issued in connection with the non-agricultural revaluation process, and has announced that the corresponding update will be considered within the framework of the applicable annual updates.
