Professor Jorge Arredondo, an alumnus of the Diego Portales University School of Law and partner at Albagli Zaliasnik (az), assessed the impact of the Lucas Norambuena Scholarship two years after its creation and the collaboration between the firm and the UDP School of Law.
“The scholarship, created in memory of Lucas Norambuena and in recognition of his history, effort, and the values he represented at az, aims to closely accompany and support the academic and professional development of students from the early stages of their education. To date, it has benefited one student, who in his second year of studies was ranked No. 1 in academic progress, with the aim of supporting him throughout his university journey,” said Professor Arredondo.
For him, this type of initiative is“fundamental because it promotes a true meritocracy, independent of economic factors, allowing talent and effort to be the primary criteria for advancement—a principle we also champion at az. Furthermore, it reinforces a horizontal and cross-functional organizational culture where opportunities are generated equitably. It also represents an innovation in the way firms engage with the academic world.”
“The implementation of the scholarship has had a very positive impact on both az and UDP Law School. For az, it has been a way to strengthen ties with new talent. For UDP, it has meant opening a direct channel with az, facilitating opportunities such as classes, internships, and complementary outreach activities. Today, about 10 of the nearly 60 lawyers at our firm come from the UDP Law School, which reflects not only a close relationship but also a clear affinity in values and the development of individuals,” he noted.
“We intend for this collaboration to continue consolidating as a virtuous cycle, strengthening the link between the academic and professional worlds. The idea is to continue expanding opportunities for participation, such as hosting students, developing joint activities, and promoting new programs. Likewise, we are confident that this type of initiative will serve as an example for other firms to also join in supporting new talent,” concluded Arredondo.
